School bus drivers in the northern and eastern parts of the city could go on strike Thursday if they can’t reach a deal with their employer, Stock Transportation.
The drivers with Canadian Auto Workers, Local 4268, drive for the Toronto District School Board, Toronto Catholic District School Board and the Toronto French School Board. They’ve voted 91% in favour of taking strike action if their demands for compensation and other things are not met.
The CAW has been in negotiations with Stock since September.
“We are extremely hopeful that a strike can be avoided,” said Debbie Montgomery, CAW Local 4268 president. “Our members deserve to be treated fairly; they provide a crucial service for the city’s education system, including for the largest school board in the country.”
Montgomery said the drivers do not want to disrupt service.
“If that does occur though, it will be caused by the unwillingness of Stock Transportation to negotiate an equitable collective agreement for our members,” Montgomery said.
CAW Local 4268 represents approximately 600 workers at Stock Transportation.
